AI Art Face-Off: Comparing the Top Image and Video Generation Tools
An In-Depth Look at Midjourney, Dall-e 3, Runway, and Stable Diffusion - Which Reigns Supreme?
Dear friends,
for those who are not yet playing around with AI image or video creation — I have something for you.
Here are the most popular and also currently state-of-the-art image and video creation tools with AI.
Midjourney
Midjourney is an old player in the AI image game but produces fantastic results. You can go from very realistic to super artistic and abstract. Very addictive. The “downside” is that it runs only on Discord. So you need to make an account there and get familiar with the Discord world a little bit.
Dall-e 3
Dall-e 3 is running in Chat GPT and made a big leap in the last months. It creates pretty realistic looking images but has its strength in following very accurately your wishes, creating illustrations, readable text and yes… also logos. Instead of just entering prompts (words which describe the image), you can really tell ChatGPT what you want in a real sentences. It feels like collaborating with an illustrator and having a conversation with him.
Runway
Runway can create images but shines with its video animation. You can feed it with any image you like — also images which you created with Midjourney or Dall-e 3. Then Runway animates it smoothly. There is an app for the phone which comes with some free minutes to explore.
Stable Diffusion
Stable Diffusion is the most versatile tool of them all. You can create brilliant images, smooth videos or completely customised animations. It is a very complex tool and it needs quite some time to wrap your head around it — but there are basically no limits. You can run it in the cloud or on your local computer and there is a big community which releases plugins, models and extensions constantly.
For me as a tech-lover — this is the perfect tool. I can tweak and experiment and come up with animations and specific images which are just not possible with all the other tools which are mentioned above. I did a tutorial which explains the basics some months ago and plan to release another one hopefully soon.
Also I want to take this newsletter as an opportunity to feature the work of friends and people who inspire me.
As already mentioned above, Max Kuwertz is doing great work in the field of image creation with AI. Here are some of the images which he created with Midjourney.
It feels more like photography than AI generated — I think this opens the question: How will photography, art direction and basically everything change with AI in the coming years?
Check out Max Instagram here.
Well, thats it. Much longer than expected…
Using those tools is not that difficult. It’s super fun and does not require much technical knowledge.
Please send me some of your results if this article inspired you to dive into the world of AI. ❤️
Much love,
Marius
