Embracing Substack: My Experiment in Daily Diary Entries
Exploring the journey of publishing daily diary entries on Substack.
Dear friends,
So I changed to Substack to publish my journey. To be honest, I do not know if this was a good idea.
The idea of this platform is that people can subscribe with their emails. But who wants to get my diary entries daily as email?
If people subscribe, they want to get some well-written interesting content. And if people even subscribe by paying 5€ a month, they expect even more well-written and interesting content.
I don’t think that I will be able to write something interesting every day. And also I don’t like the pressure of it. Maybe nothing interesting happens, and I am in a creative hole. Who wants to get those emails every day?
But it’s all an experiment, and I stick with Substack for now. I read this morning that it is also possible to publish certain articles without sending them as an email.
Spending my time documenting my journey and writing about it, I am also considering reactivating my Twitter/X account. Especially to build up an NFT community, Twitter/X seems to be the right platform. The NFT people are not on Instagram yet. That’s what I learned from listening to some NFT podcasts.
It’s all so much to consider. So many platforms and ways of behaving on them. It’s a bit overwhelming. Not sure if this is my jam. But okay. It’s all an experiment.
Maybe I should set myself some goals for this month. For example:
- Hit 1000 Instagram followers
- Get 10 non-paying Substack subscribers
I don’t know what else yet.
I did upload some AI videos on YouTube and got views and followers. Maybe YouTube is the place to be?
And what about TikTok? I hope that I don’t need to get into this one as well!
Right now Armin is doing some great job updating our studio website of 100k, and I am going through all our projects and doing screen recordings of our website projects. So we can upload them to the new website and also on Instagram.
For my own Instagram, I use Buffer to schedule my posts. Every Friday, a new project gets posted automatically. Yes! But I also spent a lot of time preparing everything. It took me almost half a year to actually sit down and start to prepare my posts. It’s the stuff I really don’t like to do. It feels like a waste of my time. I want someone to do all that for me.
I also tried to do a tutorial on how to use Stable Diffusion some days ago. I failed big. Explaining something to a camera without drifting away into nonsense and making mistakes is really difficult. I will give it another shot today.
Also, I need a good microphone to do this - which I don’t have yet. Anyway, some people asked me to show them how to start with Stable Diffusion… I might as well just do it. Good microphone or not.
Edit: I did another test with a tutorial today. I used the software called Descript to do screen recordings and editing. My mistake was that my recording was over an hour long. So I was not able to use the free version of the software.
Maybe I will give it another shot tomorrow.
Wishing you all a nice weekend!
Much love,
Marius
