Stellar Dreams: Unveiling Spacebirth 2
Still of Spacebirth 2

Dear friends,

As many of you are aware, we (Audrey Belaud, Richard Keith & me) ventured into filmmaking a few years back with our sci-fi feature, "Spacebirth 2."

This unique film, exploring the experiences of a solitary cosmonaut encountering the wonders of space, was a collaborative effort with many wonderful individuals, some of whom remain dear friends.

This project was a significant learning curve for me, as it was my first foray into the realms of movies and animation.

Behind the camera

About a year ago, we had the honor of being invited to Bangkok for the "Amazing Stoner Movie Festival."

Our movie was screened twice and, to our delight, won the award for the "Most Shocking Movie." The festival took place in a charming cinema/art-space in central Bangkok, established by Ing Kanjanavanit, a filmmaker herself.

Ing's first feature film, "My Teacher Eats Biscuits," an experimental work, faced a ban due to governmental concerns about its potential offense to various religions. Her 2008 documentary, "Citizen Juling," focusing on the tragic fate of a teacher in Southern Thailand amidst extremist conflict, received numerous accolades. However, "Shakespeare Must Die," her adaptation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth," was also banned, deemed a threat to national security.

Ing graciously hosted me for nearly a month at Cinema Oasis, a place that feels like a second home to me in its tranquility.

This coming January, I will be returning there to spend three weeks writing the script for our new movie, which will likely be a blend of ghost and love story elements.

Additionally, on December 21st, "Spacebirth 2" will be screened at a cinema in Freiburg. The film is also available online (password available upon request).

That's all for now on films, cinemas, and Bangkok.

Much love,
Marius
